Practical Chinese is a series of textbooks designed for native English speakers to learn Chinese in Chinese School or Chinese Language Classes.
The entire series of Practical Chinese is composed of 13 books, including Preschool Speaking and Singing Book, and Textbooks (1 to 12).
Preschool Speaking and Singing Book comes with a drawing book, a learning book and an audio CD. It emphasizes the learning of the pinyin and recognizing the Chinese characters through pictures, rhymes, songs, and poems.
Books 1-12: Each volume comes with 2 workbooks. There are 12 lessons in each book and each lesson includes a conversation with an English translation. Combined instructions for the four basic skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing, are emphasized. Attention is paid to the instructions for the pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. The sentence patterns and grammar that are presented to students emphasize functional usage. Staring from book 3 each lesson includes a proverb with an English translation.
Supplementary Materials such as Chinese Poems and Chinese Idioms and Fables come with audio CDs. Chinese Poems can be sung or chanted to world famous songs. Chinese interpretations and English translations have also been provided. Chinese Idioms and Fable, a set with 2 books and 2 audio CDs, includes reading comprehension and Contents discuss in order to help student understand.
